U.N.O. Heartland Middle School Choir

Creighton Prep Afternoon of Science Honors

A team of St. Cecilia 8th graders competed at the Creighton Prep Afternoon of Science on October 25.  Individual honors were won by Jack B. - 1st place in Water Balloon Launch and Ben S. 2nd place in Egg Drop.  

Congratulations to the St. Cecilia Chess Club!

On October 17, five St. Cecilia Chess Club players competed in the Spring Lake Elementary Chess Tournament.  Liam O. placed 3rd in the 1st and 2nd Grade Division; Kaiden P. placed 4th in the 4th Grade Division; Marshall B. placed 1st and George C. placed 2nd in the 5th Grade Division; and 4th grader Tara O. placed 4th in the 7th and 8th Grade Division.

St. Cecilia Band Members Qualify for MCS Honor Band

Congratulations to the following St. Cecilia students who were accepted, by audition, into the Music in Catholic Schools Honor Band: 6th grader Naomi K., 7th graders Eli W. and Pierre L., and 8th graders Jack P., Ben S., and Nathan J.

St. Cecilia Junior High Robotics Team Qualifies For the World Championship!

The St. Cecilia Junior High Robotics Team attended the Vex Robotics Championship of the Americas Tournament at the Civic Center on April 2 - 4. Teams from as far away as California competed in the 3 day event.  In the head to head competition, the St. Cecilia team made it to the semi-final round.

The big news came, however, during the Saturday award ceremony. The St. Cecilia team was awarded the Think Award presented to the team that has successfully  utilized autonomous programming modes during competition.

The final award of the night, the Excellence Award, was the highest award of the event. According to VEX, "The recipient of this award is a team that exemplifies overall excellence in building a well-rounded VES robotics program. This team excels in many areas and is a shing example of dedication, devotion, hardwork, and teamwork. A strong contender in numerous award categories, this team deserves to be recognized for their accomplishments building a robot and in building a 'team' committed to qualilty in everything they do." The St. Cecilia team won!

This award qualifies them to attend the 2009 Vex Robotics Competition World Championship in Dallas on April 30, May 1, and May 2. Students attending the Championship of the Americas Tournament were Daniel E., Joe F., Peter J., Nathan J., Hannah L., Christian N., Ben S., Joe S., and Will W.The team's volunteer coaches are Matt Fitzgerald and Roger Schmeits. Their teacher-sponsor is Tara Petersen.

The U.S. Department of Education named Saint Cecilia Cathedral Grade School a winner of the 2007 Blue Ribbon School Award.  We were honored to be named a National school of Excellence in 1985 as well. 

Saint Cecilia Grade School was the 2007 winner of the Creative Ticket Award from the Nebraska Arts Council and the Kennedy Center, providing an artist-in-residence experience for our students, and recognizing our commitment to all forms of arts education.
